The Mattapoisett Community Sailing Association (MCSA), also known as MattSail, offers affordable Private Lessons for individuals eager to learn or improve their sailing skills in a personalized, one-on-one (or small group) setting. We’re excited to help you discover (or rediscover) the joy of sailing in a supportive, low-pressure environment—perfect for families, friends, or anyone seeking focused instruction.

This program is designed for beginner sailors with little or no prior experience, as well as for those looking to build greater confidence on the water. You’ll gain a solid foundation in basic sailing techniques, key terminology (nomenclature), and essential safety practices—all while enjoying the beautiful waters of Mattapoisett Harbor.

Lesson Details

Cost:

One person- $88.00 per hour
Two people- $122.00 per hour
Three people- $156.00 per hour
Four people- $173.00 per hour

Duration:
Standard private lessons are held by appointment and are 1 hour long. If you’d like more time on the water, we can easily extend your session to 1.5 hours for an additional fee.

Location:
All lessons take place from the scenic Mattapoisett Town Beach.

What to Bring:
Participants are responsible for providing their own U.S. Coast Guard-approved lifejacket (PFD). It is recommended to have non-slip, closed-toe shoes. You may also bring an optional dry bag for securing items and to keep them dry. Be prepared with extra layers to keep warm. A small towel or quick dry cloth and water bottle could add to your comfort.

Weather Policy:
Sailing is weather-dependent for safety. If lessons need to be canceled or rescheduled due to inclement conditions (such as high winds, thunderstorms, or poor visibility), your instructor will reach out to you at least 30 minutes before your scheduled start time to confirm or adjust plans.

Cancellation Policy:
We understand life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify us as soon as possible prior to your lesson time. This helps us accommodate others waiting for openings.
